How it works

A second actor, posing as an attorney, law enforcement officer, or bondsman, quickly takes the line to demand thousands of dollars in bail or settlement fees. The high-stress, time-sensitive scenario exploits emotional panic to bypass standard rational verification checks. Recent incidents increasingly utilize local physical rideshare couriers to pick up cash directly from victims' homes. Consumers must recognize that real emergency services and courts do not demand immediate payment via peer-to-peer apps, gift cards, or physical cash handoffs.
