Who it targets: Professionals, dating app users, and active social media participants

How it works

This scheme blends long-term social engineering with fraudulent investment portals. Fraudsters establish rapport over weeks or months through dating apps, messaging platforms, or misdirected text messages. Once trust is solidified, the conversation shifts to lucrative cryptocurrency trading or foreign exchange opportunities. The victim is directed to a bespoke trading website or mobile application that simulates high daily returns. Initial small withdrawals are permitted to build confidence. When the victim deposits substantial capital, the platform blocks withdrawals, citing fabricated liquidity thresholds, tax obligations, or regulatory audits requiring additional upfront fees. The platforms are entirely simulated, and deposited funds are laundered immediately through automated mixers. Victims should never transfer assets to unverified exchanges.
